Tom Sawyer-Character analysis

Tom Sawyer- Tom Sawyer is a trouble maker to say the least. There never goes a day in which Tom does not get in to some sort of mischief. He is a natural show-off, who likes to show his authority over other boys. I would guess he is about 12-13 years old, judging from hints i gathered from the novel. He was born in a town on the Mississippi River, where he and Huck grew up. Tom is definitely a boy. You may say, "duh, of course he's a boy." But he thoroughly represents the freewill of boyhood. He does all of the childish and usually gross boyish things. Despite this, Tom is probably to smart for his own good. His best friends include Joe Harper and Huckleberry Finn. Tom has an obvious liking for Becky. He has a half-brother, Sid, a cousin, Mary, and his aunt is known as Aunt Polly, with all of whom he lives. Tom is Aunt Polly's dead sister's son.

Huckleberry Finn- Huck is the town outcast. He is thoughtful but uneducated. At age 13 he is living on his own terms, doing what he wants, where he want, and when he wants to do it. Huck too is very boyish. He is always doing stuff that would get most boys in trouble but the punishment never comes. He is always dirty... to say the least.

Aunt Polly- Aunt Polly goes by no other name than Aunt Polly. She has a daughter Mary and is taking care of Tom and his younger brother Sid. She is very superstitious, always believing the newest health enhancement and subjected Tom to a full array of them. She has tried to make Tom a respectable boy but often feels guilty when she punishes him.

Sid- Sid is Tom's younger brother. He is a tattletale that is always getting Tom in trouble. Tom and Sid don't get along. Sid annoys Tom and Tom is mean to Sid... for good reason.

Becky- Becky is the girl of Tom's dreams. Tom is always showing off for her. She is a proper girl but is easily intrigued. She has a secret liking for Tom but doesn't show it very often.
