The Pearl 1

I think the pearl represents peoples character. It brings out who people really are. In Kino the pearl brings out his desire to help his family. He has always had this wish but the pearl my have finally made it possible. For Jauna the pearl doesn't really change anything. She was probably already happy with how things were. In the neighbors the pearl showed their greed and intrest. They all started talking about what they would do with the pearl and every time something changed with the "pearl status" they knew almost intsantaniously. The pearl not only brought out the doctors greed but also his violent side. he was willing to hurt Coyotito and Kino for this pearl. the pearl brought out the priest trickery, sneekiness, and greed aswell. He built Kino up giving him praise and then sliped in that he should donate to the gods to have a good life. Finally in the townspeople it brought out what seem to be the universal trait, greed. Everyone wanted a piece of the prize. Everyone felt obligated to the pearl almost as if it was theirs.
